# Project Digital-Bacillaria

## What is a Diatom?

**Diatoms** are single-celled algae. **Diatoms** are algae that live in houses made of glass. They are the only organism on the planet with cell walls composed of transparent, opaline silica. **Diatom** cell walls are ornamented by intricate and striking patterns of silica. For more information go to [what-are-diatoms](https://diatoms.org/what-are-diatoms#:~:text=Diatoms%20are%20single%2Dcelled%20algae,and%20striking%20patterns%20of%20silica.).

## Why do we need to study the diatoms and make a digital library of their data?

Diatoms are very simple organisms to study and we can get a rough idea of how life works, because we don't even know what is exactly life ? or what is consciousness? By this project, we are going to understand the working of the diatoms and can simulate them in digital form.

### Deep Learning for Diatom Non-neuronal Cognition

The aim of this project will be to improve upon a Deep Learning model that extracts morphological features from microscopy images of *Bacillaria Paradoxa*. This will allow our organization to begin creating a database for the study of movement behavior and non-neuronal cognition in simple multicellular organisms.
